A new gem in Kisumu City

Jambo Impala Eco Lodge, Kisumu

Jambo Impala EcoLodge is nestled on the shores of Lake Victoria, within the lush grounds and protected ecosystem of the Kisumu Impala Sanctuary

The latest hotel to open in Kisumu City, Acacia Premier Hotel, is expected to be a unique four-star hospitality establishment once operations kick off. Simba Hospitality Group’s hospitality manager, Nazir Khamisa says the 90-roomed hotel is strategic since it overlooks Lake Victoria, Kisumu International Airport and Riat Hills.

“Our accommodation and world-class conference facilities coupled with tantalising cuisines and unrivalled services and a rooftop swimming pool with a sun deck are some of the unique features of the facility,” he says.

The hotel is found on the third floor of the Westend Mall, a land mark property, which houses the first Nairobi Java House, the first TACC Store, the first Uchumi and the first Woolworths in Kisumu region.

The mall is also home to a Samsung Showroom, Kenya Airways Regional offices, The Wine Shop, Healthy U, DTB Bank with extended late evening banking hours, Cream Bell, Mamas Toto Boutique, Simba Telecom, Optica, Bata and DHL. “This is the best location for late sunset-over-water view,” says Khamisa.

The hotel has a modern health club and gymnasium and the Aqua Poolside bar, a hot spot in the area for families and friends meetings. “The poolside is also a venue for BBQs, poolside cocktail dinners and evening sundowners, all of which feature live local music and traditional local dancers,” he says.

Simba Hospitality currently has developed two properties; Villa Rosa, a 200 room, five-star hotel in Nairobi; and Olare Mara, a 12 tent luxury camp in the Maasai Mara game reserve.

The two properties are managed by Kempinski, Europe’s Oldest Luxury Hotel group and have since established market leadership, with Villa Rosa voted the best new hotel property in Africa in 2014 and Olare Lodge listed among top 10 best lodges of the world.

More properties are under development in Mombasa, Naivasha and Machakos. Simba Corporation is also a leading auto dealer with exclusive franchises.

With the tourism industry facing more than enough challenges in Kenya, It pains industry professionals like us to see how reckless some government officials make some very important decisions. This statement is against the recent happenings of 2 lions killed in Nairobi.
With all due respect to those families who have lost the lives of their loved ones or property through such unfortunate occurrences, the KWS officials should realize that It doesn’t take much education to understand that generally, animals don’t reason like human being and killing one of their own will not stop them from killing another person who crosses their path especially when they are provoked.
I believe there are better ways to handle such situations in order to contain wildlife that dangerously roam human settlement areas and at its best return them to their natural habitats. And the story shouldn’t end there, but to also strategize on how to safely contain them within the secluded ares without any possibility of escape.
